Seasonal Flowers
Seasonal Flowers is a series of collages that thematically examines man’s control over nature and aesthetic beauty. In this series I juxtapose imagery from two separate sources. Images from plant guides are combined with Playboy pinups to reveal how both are objectified, manicured, reproduced, and engineered by man in order to satisfy a particular standard. I am specifically interested in the authorities that dictate societal beauty. From mowing our lawns to having plastic surgery we obsess over controlling nature and meeting the standards of beauty. These standards continually evolve over time, eventually becoming obsolete and nullifying any one concept of what beauty truly is.
